Suspension advice pointy.
Hey guys,
ok i have searched about and read up on some of the options but i would like people just to clarify stuff for me, i'd be looking to just do the internals of the stock forks compared to replacing the front end. what should i be looking to buy? how hard a job is it? how much skill is needed? how long it take? how much will it probably cost? any scottish folk want to help me or do it for me? its my main planned upgrade as the suspension on the bike is boring and too soft especially the front. dont know when its planned but i'm looking at it in detail just now. thanks Ad |
Re: Suspension advice pointy.
Define "internals"
Emulators, cartridges? Or just springs and oil? |
Re: Suspension advice pointy.
If you bring the bike to me, I'll do it or help you do it... (just on the west side of Edinburgh) Never done emulators myself mind, but I've done a few springs-and-oils...

You can likely use Matris drop in cartridges, can get prices from PDQ. Or RaceTech gold valve cartridge emulators. Emulators - ?120 approx, springs - ?80 approx, new fluid ?20. Skill wise all depends on what you've done before. The Matris kit is pretty simple to install. Emulators however require a small amount of modification to the existing damper rods (drilling and deburring a few holes) and some careful measurement. If you take your time you could complete it in a day. |

Re: Suspension advice pointy.
haha time for you to laugh,
i dont know what emulators are, it would probably just be springs and oil as i just want the front end a bit stiffer |
Re: Suspension advice pointy.
Emulators are, well, a wee spring-loaded valve, basically, that makes your suspension work better. Very nice mod. But yeah, springs and oil makes good sense as a first mod, if you decide you still want more you can always go back and fit emulators after as the springs will still work- dead easy.
Well, like I say, you're welcome to either a supervising eye, or you can make the coffee while I do it, or any mix thereof ;) It's really a very easy job, if you can work a spanner at all you can do it yourself, but it's nice to have backup. |
