Engine Vibrations?
Hi all, wonder if anyone can help me or shed on any light on the following......
I was out on my K4 SV650S at the weekend on one of my usual routes and noticed the engine seemed to be more 'vibey' than usual, I noticed it in my feet, hands and round the engine area. Just a bit of background info: I've had the bike for a year so i'm fairly accustomed to how the sv's twin engine feels and there's been a definite change/increase in the vibrations. It had its full service in February about 500 miles ago, current mileage is about 16,500 miles. Throttle bodies were balanced and valve clearances checked on full service. It has a fairly new chain, the tension is correct. The bike was handling great (toes down) at the weekend, nothing to make me think there was anything wrong with the wheels, tyres, suspension etc. There doesn't seem to be any loss of power, it accelerates fine. I have put my baffle back in my Beowulf Warrior can. Also my partners bike, a VTR was also doing the same thing. He said it also seemed more 'vibey' than usual. The only common factors between our bikes was we fuelled up at the same place, same pump in fact, but surely if it was bad fuel i'd be losing power? Also, i put my baffle back in and the VTR had its original cans put back on cos its MOT time, could it have something to do with this? Anybody got any ideas as to what it could be or are we just going mad  Cheers Fee. :D |
Re: Engine Vibrations?
You certainly can feel the difference between fuels sometimes. It depends how fuel sensitive the engine is and to a large extent how sensitive you are.
I have an old BMW bike which is very fuel sensitive, I can tell within a few hundred yards after refuelling whether it likes the fuel. If both you and a friend on another bike felt the same then it's probably real. You won't necessarily lose much power, it often shows up as poor response and rough or irregular running. It depends on what the specific hydrocarbons in the mix are like for volatility and ignitability etc, rather than calorific value. I had some fuel in my car from a Total garage and it was rubbish, the car was completely flat and economy was at least 10% worse than usual. Fresh Shell fuel sorted it. |

Check your oil level, just in case...
Ive noticed my bike being a bit less vibey with V-power, but that could just be me.... Dont sweat it, its a v-twin, it vibrates :D might just be purring extra-loud because its now warm, and we're out of winter, so its happy Matt |
