Curvy front end, I want a shopping list
 

Hi,
Basically got a curvy, want a new front end.
I want upside-down forks and better brakes, radials are prefered.
I'm mechanically minded enough to fit it just need to know what year gsxr will work and with what yolks? basically a shopping list.. I know it's been explained before but I really didnt understand it.
Also, I've read a mod that can be done to fit an R6 throttle tube, what is the benefit to this?

i did the r6 throttle tube on mine a few months back, it gives a slightly quicker action and basically means you can open it from shut to full on with slightly less rotation on the twistgrip :) if you do a search in tweaking and tuning you'll find loads of advice about quick action and r6 throttles and front end mods and suspension upgrades

Your best bet is go for an SRAD750 front end
Basically what you'll need is a complete front end then you'll need a different top steering bearing which you can get from Amreica and then you'll need a speedo conversion, there are a few threads recently that have about the speedo conversion in it

Oh and Charlie is right about the R6 throttle mod

or do you want a complete list of all the parts you'll need for the front end swap?

Yep, the SRAD front end complete gives you a good front end, decent brakes too. It's not the flashest/most modern but it's still pretty effective, and cheap too (the saving between a 97 or thereabouts front end and a 2007 front end will more than pay for a complete rebuild and upgrade, to the point where the old forks will probably be better!)

You can complicate matters further if you want, but nothing's as straightforward. Mine is currently, wait for it, a standard SRAD bottom yoke and Vortex top yoke with the Twin Works Factory top bearing, and a pair of LSL Sport Match clipons, bolted to a pair of GSXR750 K5 forks with a K3 mudguard (which doesn't quite fit), which has an SRAD axle fitted on which spins a Honda SP-2 fitment Dymag wheel, which is fitted with a single Honda CBR900 330mm, which is bitten on by a 2006 R6 caliper and matching R6 master cylinder :smt101 That almost all bolted straight together, I had to make 4 spacers, 2 for the axle and 2 for the caliper. But that's a bit silly ;)

I've got pretty much a complete SRAD front end waiting to go onto mine except the clipons which are from a TL1000s

Yeah, but that's just boring.

The TL clipons are a good tip though, the GSXR ones are really too low, the throttle cables drag on the fairing on a curvy S and scratch it (plus that's an MOT fail), and it's not comfy. The LSLs are a bit better but also about 3 times as much...

Boring? Nah just less hassle that way ;)

I think the TL clipons cost me about £25 for the pair and how much were the LSL one then Northy?

?105? My TL ones cost me ?40 though, so, about 3 times as much on aggregate ;)

The point I was making with my huge list wasn't so much "Look at the cool stuff you can do", more "Look what a slippery slope this is", at the end of the day all that extra thinking time hasn't made a massively better front end, the wheel aside. I bet an SRAD front with Ktech internals in would work better than mine frinstance.

That's mainly aimed at the pointies, yokes from those years won't work with the curvy.

gixxer thou from 03> and the 600/750 from 04> has the radials.
All the radial braked models are USD.

I'd probably start by looking at SRAD750 yokes, there's a good chance these will fit the gixxer USD's. Then just work down and figure out what fits what. Bear in mind the SRAD yokes are pretty wide so you may have to shim discs and such.

Mixing up the years isn't the easy route, and IMO radial brakes are mostly bling. For the cheapest, go for SRAD600, for cheapest and easiest USD's, go for SRAD750
