Last bit of parental responsibility (well sort of)
 

Took my youngest around to vote today, his first time.

He’s away in September to Preston for 4 years, just about the last thing we’ll do as a first as father & son, I’d guess the relationship will change as it has with the eldest, not a bad thing, just natural progress.

Life moves on.

When you say Preston. Do I assume, The Harris, AKA Preston Poly, AKA University of central Lancashire.

My dad went to the Harris
I went to Preston Poly

Thank god non of my kids followed family tradition. Whoops forgot daughter no 2 did her nursing there.


There are a few of us Pennine lot round Preston if he ever feels the need to learn decent Lancashire roads.


My lad, never got any voting cards etc. He is off the register for my place. but obviously not on it for his own

Hi Tim, University of central Lancashire,rings a bell I think, unfortunately I wasn't able to go up there with him, apparently it's one of the few places to do a proper forensic computing course.

He tells me it pretty good, but I've really no idea to be honest, I've given him what I can over the years, the choices are his now :smt102

Mums a bit upset, last out of the nest and all that, but hey it's all good.

Oh the irony of ironies, I've encouraged, helped and taught, loads of people to ride, get into biking, but alas neither of my sons are interested :(

So I seriously doubt he'd be interested in a ride anywhere.

Mark its hardly surprising with all your scrapes that your sons are not keen to jump onto a motorbike.

Its not the last you'll see of him! He'll still need to cme home to get a decent meal an his clothes at elast ironed, if not washed, dried and ironed :D

Just don't forget to ring him every now and then :) Its great receiving an unexpected phone call from your mum and dad, specialy when your doing a peice of work you just can't get right; afterwards, it all seems to make sense

I took my lad to vote for the first time yesterday as well. He is leaving on Sunday to work in France for at least 4 months. Like you Mark I feel life moving on.

whilst I guess the last couple of years could well have put the youngest off, that arguement doesn't stand for Jack as around the time he would have been "getting into" biking I hadn't had anything in the way of serious accidents, I think it's more to do with peer groups actually, still both the boys have a fair understanding of mechanics and engine and good tool handling skills, so hopefully that'll stand them in good stead (and of course they both know a good merchanic that works for tea ;)).

Oh and Matt, much as he's welcome to visit and I'm sure his mum will pester him endlessly, come September his stuff gets packed up and his room turned into a guest room, from that point on he can visit anytime he likes, but he doesn't live here anymore, sounds harsh perhaps, but it's giving him 4 years notice he needs to find accomadation once he finishes his course, everyone needs to live life for themselves, so as with my eldest I'm hoping this will be a slight push in the right direction, no real practical change, but an important mental one (what his mum does when he visits is something elses altogether mind), the other side of the same coin is he doesn't need to come back every uni holiday period as it's not expected, like most things in life you don't know if you've done a good job until it's to late to change anything, I hope we've given him all the tools to at least learn enough to make his own way, we'll always be here for both of them, but that is something different, the point where your parents aren't the first port of call and all that. it's very much the old "go out my son and join the world" kind of stuff.

If he has half the Joy/fun and achievement I've had, he'll love it, all part of the big adventure.
