bike starts but will not rev
Help. My 2000 SV naked is starting and will run for a while at tick over but will not rev. I have a spyball alarm/immobiliser which was reluctant to let me start the bike a few weeks ago but otherwise no problems. any ideas?
Thanks tom |

Re: bike starts but will not rev
Throttle cable disconected or broken?? throttle bodies disconected?? as the engine starts id doubt it would be water in the fuel.. but i think you should be looking more at the the actual throttle connection rather than the alarm.. because in theory if it was the alarm then it wouldnt start at all. if you look through the frame of your bike under your tank you will see two goldy looking rods.. when you open the throttle these should move.. if they dont then that will be the issue as these control the pumps.. but as its electric start the engine fules the bike on tick over automaticly.. have a look

Re: bike starts but will not rev
Does the choke work properly- ie raise the revs etc?
That might help narrow it down a little. |
Re: bike starts but will not rev
I've misunderstood the problem here, thought he said it was conking when revved.
Simple stuff first as you say lylej |
Re: bike starts but will not rev
Thanks Folks
Had a look and throttle bodies are working. The choke is not working. If I try to use it the revs wont increase and the bike cuts out. i notice a strong smell of petrol around the bike and have noticed a stain on the frame on the left side. I think the tank is leaking but wonder if this would make any difference. I will not get a chance to take a proper look until next weekend. again thanks I appreciate the helpful comments Tom |
