gear selector coming loose
Gotta bit of a weird prob, ive noticed that my gear selector is comin loose.
Now there is nothing wrong with the gearbox or anything like that, its just the bolt which attaches the assembly to the bike keeps on getting loose, obviously this aint good! Any ideas why this is happenin?! The attached pic is just to show the part i mean, the bike doesnt look like this now! lol. Where u can see the foot peg, just underneath where the gear selector attaches to the rest of the bike, its the chunky bolt in there that keeps coming loose! Help??!! http://images31.fotki.com/v1099/phot...2008598-vi.jpg |
Re: gear selector coming loose
have you taken the bolt out, to see if its snapped? as if it has, it may be the problem, as its not gripping into the thread enough
maybe try a bit of locktight? |
Re: gear selector coming loose
Mine has done it ever since I dropped it & broke the gear lever (the bit your foot presses when you're changing gear).
In my case, it's simply vibrating out. I'm told it's quite a common fault, which is pretty scary if you ask me. Anyway, loctite threadlock, and job jobbed. |
Re: gear selector coming loose
It would have been threadlocked before leaving the factory I reckon. So it's possibly been replaced and loctite not used.

Mind, I reckon the bump mine took probably screwed things up (cracked the treadlock applied perhaps), and then it just vibrates loose due to the engine. So I threadlocked it back, and it's not moved since. |
Re: gear selector coming loose
Hmmm, that is odd. I wonder if they come in a crate and the footpegs are assembled in the actual shop.
But loctite does seem to be the way to go. |

They dont. This happened to me on my K4 on my way back home one day, my ghetto solution was to superglue (well actually the little bottle of false nail glue my girlfriend left in my tankbag but its the same stuff) on the thread of the bolt and nip it up as best i could before it set. That was 2 years ago and its still working fine, but threadlock would probably be better. en4rab |

Re: gear selector coming loose
Its not just SV's
Saw it on gixxer once too |
Re: gear selector coming loose
+1 threadlock + proper tools to do it to the correct tightness and it's not done it again.
Touch wood  |
