Caliper Compatibility
 

Hi all, well my calipers turned up yesterday. They are off a GSXR 1000 K4, so the radial type. I have checked the greeks table of infinate wisdom but sure enough the bit I need to know.... he doesnt :)
Does anyone else know if the GSXR1000K4 Calipers are interchangable with any other GSXR forks? I/E 600/750 or 1000, any year as long as they are the radial type?

I would make a total guess and reckon that since they're both on the 300mm disc and same wheel then they will be.

Best bet is probably to bolt them up and see what happens.

Edit: That, and ask northwind, I think his front end is from around that "era"

yes.not only between gsxr's but most other japanese bikes.
I use yamaha calipers on gsxr,gsxr ones on 636.....
only difference between them may be if they work with rotor diameter which in most cases can be sorted with spacers.

Some of the GSXR thou tokicos have a sort built in spacer- they're functionally the same but they sit 10mm further off the fork. Mine are like that, with my K4 forks they'll only work with 320mm. IMO 320mm discs and those calipers, plus a good master cylinder, is not a good road setup, lots of power but it comes in very hard, lacks subtlety. Good when you're cracking on and really on it, but pretty horrible on a freezing wet day.

(though I'm using an R6 one now with a couple of little spacers I made)

I tried both the GSXR 1000 calipers (black) with the 320 discs and the 600 gold ones with 300 discs on my SV650 fitted with a GSXR 600K4 front end, and went for the gold ones with 300 discs. Better feel, slightly lighter, and easier to get the front wheel in and out. No shortage of power either, able to pick the rear wheel off the ground at three figure speeds. Definitely one of the best front brake set-ups I've ever used.

last time I put set of 320 and 300 on scale they were same weight :)

Exactly, think the last time I did it the 300's came in 2g lighter but this could be down to the scales tolerances!

That... makes no sense :D Are the discs thinner? I noticed the manufacturers are getting back into proper 90s-style ".5mm thinner" ".5mm thicker" every year... I know my Blade 330mm disc was just fractionally heavier than the SP2 320mm disc, but not by very much... But then its probably a bit more worn, so that comparison goes stupid.

Course, it also counts where you carry the weight, closer to the hub = effectively lighter.
