Lollypop Men/Women

Daft question........

I thought Lollypop Men and Women helped young children across the road in order to get to and from school safely, children being the key word. On my way to work I drive up an extremely busy main road where there`s a lollypop man. This guy holds up the traffic countless times because he stops us in order to allow adults across the road. These adults don`t have children with them they`re just older people probs on their way to work but he just marches out into the road, stops all the traffic and lets them cross. It`s getting really infuriating cos he happens to catch me most mornings and i obv have to stop. I don`t actually object to being stopped but I do wonder is he actually allowed to do this or not.

If he wasnt there and the "older" people were crossing would you stop ?????

No... the road is way too busy to just stop in the middle of the road to let somebody across.

they`re not old as in elderly they`re just people on their way to work etc. No kids with them. I would imagine that if he wasn`t stopping the traffic to let them across they`d use the pelican crossing further up the road

Is there actually a school nearby? lol! Maybe he's not really a lollipop man....

Damn I was hoping for a real mystery then...am clearly bored hehe.

Hmm, I've not seen that before. Is it the time of day when the adults may have just dropped their kids off at school and so need to get back across the road? I suppose that would be sort of be to do with the kids in an indirect way, you would have thought they were big enough not to need a lollipop man though! :smt017

If there is a crossing nearby and in your opinion the road is too dangerous to just stop for somebody to cross then can I suggest that you contact the local council and advise them of the potential danger before somebody is injured or killed due to a poorly situated temporary controlled crossing.

There is a similar situation near where I live and the attendent regularly stops traffic for "grown ups". As far as I see it, I would sooner have "grown ups" using a controlled crossing where the attendent is clearly visible than have them crossing at various convenient (for them) places along the road.

This page explains it. It seems that anyone can be helped across so long as it's at the approved site and within the operating times.

Isn't complaining about it to the council being a bit, well, petty?

Re: Lollypop Men/Women

I would only call complaining to the council Petty if the crossing was not an issue. In this case, it apparently is. If there is a justifiable reason for complaining about it then contacting the council is a viable avenue.

Nope... they`re crossing the road towards the school and not walking away from it if you see what I mean.
