checking oil level, engine running or not
 
well as above silly question but you get two diff readings, do you check with engine running or not

engine off for at least 5 mins before checking, to give oil chance to run back to the sump. Hold bike level to check it.

yes make sure engine is off an the bike has been sitting a bit after it was last run other wise you will get a dodge reading.

I'll highlight the holding the bike upright bit as that is very important ricky and not to be overlooked! :)

I thought my SV was dead when I went to collect it from the old owners, actually abandoned it and went home on the bus, and read the manual on teh way home- "Pull in clutch and press start button". Doh!
