Firing on one cylinder arrrgggghhhhh please help!
 

I realise you guys have probably heard it all before but i got on the bike this morning to ride to work and it felt like a 125 and was only running on one cylinder. The bike ran fine in the wet on the way home last night but it was very wet but it is the first wet day since i have owned the bike. I have read somewhere that this is a problem for the SV but cant find the thread on how to fix the problem and surely it shouldnt happen that quickly should it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the front plug problem

Buy a fender extender

Make sure the front cylinder drain is clear and free of cr@p.

Take the front sparkplug cap off and spray WD40 inside it and over the plug.

Thanks guys, i will have a look tonight when i get home. Is it normal for the plug to get caked up after 20 miles in the wet? Its quite concerning as i need to be using it all year round wet and dry for commuting and be reliable.

Pete has answered your question above perfectly, well done Pete! Another addition is to run a little silicone sealent on the underside of the spark plug cap.

Get a fender extender, keep the bike cleaned in that general area (so drain holes are not blocked) and the bike will see you through anything :D My trusty 1999 curvy is coming to the end of its first year of commuting, and I've had no problems with regards to the front cylinder cutting out - i beleive this is due to the fender extender. I've ridden in pretty carp conditions and on roads which, when wet, are more like rivers (the A406 north circ road in london does not drain water well at all).

Hope you get the prob fixed - im sure you will - and that you have a good time of commuting, whatever the weather.

the wet front plug can get you at any time, I have had no problems * and that is after 2 of the wettest rides in North Wales.

* now I have gone and done it, queue my front plug to stop working!

Well just to report back it was as expected a wet front plug. I have dried it out and constructed a perforated aluminium rad guard with an intergrated spray deflector out of the same sheet which looks quite cool and works a treat!

was just gonna say, if its still not good after doing the above check the Ht leads. We found yesterday that all suzys starting and running probs were down to the rear HT being very badly corroded inside. Now shes brilliant again.....for now!

Never seen an HT lead turn green inside before...
