GS500 to SV 650
 

Hi all. I live in the US and need some help. I recently sold my 2004GS500F. It just didn't have enough umph! I am looking at a 2003 SV 650S for $3600.
I never rode one, but from those with experience, would this be a good move? I am looking for a comfortable highway cruising speed of around 80 mph with the ability to pass with ease at this speed. I never had that confidence on the GS.

Definately more oomph in the SV.

I went from a Bandit 600, to a Bandit 750 (Well, it was the same bike, I just chucked a bigger lump in it), and then hopped on a 2001 Curvey SV650S.

I'd say it pulled better than the 750 motor in my Bandit did anyday.
Roll-on even at 70mph+ is better than the Bandit - I can't see myself going back to an inline-4 motorcycle now!

Yup the SV feels planted and comfy at that speed.

Also you won't look like a tool with the gsxr wannabe fairing on the GS500F :-P

Every full power SV I have ridden is happy doing this, or more!!!

You are so right about the wanna be fairing. I pass school kids who wants to see a little front end pop...and I get so embarrassed the damn lookalike GIXXER ain't got the ass.

SV isn't bad to wheelie but doing stand up ones for miles on end will kill the engine.

I did exactly this last year (although I had the naked GS). The difference is very noticable. You're not going to get your arms pulled from their sockets but the SV picks up much quicker than the GS and will cruise at 80/90 all day long.
