At the risk of sounding desperate... anyone around Manchester?

Hi All!

Well, as said above, at the risk of sounding desperate (indeed a billy no mates - or not mates with bikes anyways!) I was wondering if there were any members around my area who I could tag along with on occassion.

Basically I am useless with area knowledge, having lived abroad for 16 years, and am getting not much further than a couple of towns along for fear of getting rather lost!:-k I am not even going to contemplate a sat nav as I will most definitely find it directs me into the fastest route to tarmac!!!

My fella doesn't ride, and is less than impressed at the suggestion he should spend long periods following and meeting up while enduring our talkative son in the back of the car!

As yet, not up for anything too mad as getting my confidence back on track after a rather unfortunate encounter with a Merc (and it's ***hole driver) a few years back - he obviously didn't think STOP applied to him!:hackedoff:
Thought best to mention, as don't want to ruin anybody else's fun if that's the plan!

I am very much up for a spot of observing and learning from watching others, so any offers welcome.

Well, there you have it, lots of info from me - hopefully not enough to put everyone off!;)

Ta!

Helen

Helen - I'm just getting back on the road after a while off bikes due to an injury. I'd be more than happy to show you some decent roads if you're after a gentle sort of rideout. Me and hubby (and sometimes my brother) go out for a bimble most weekends so will let you know next time we're planning owt and you can meet up with us in Ashton.

:D

I'll be in Manchester in roughly 6 weeks (due to relocation) so I'll be up for tagging along to find some decent local roads! :)

welcome to the mad house! Oldham's just over the other side of the hills from the west yorkshire massive - there's about 7/8 of us (although I've just moved to york so bleh)...

There are some quality roads that link huddersfield and manchester together - so I'd have guessed you should be able to get to them fairly easily from the oldham. Never been anywhere other than squires cafe & pateley bridge with the massive but I'm planning on doing some nice rides over the summer if we can get a few of us along I'd be chuffed. Thinking along the lines of peak district (easy enough for most of the pennine massive to get to) and maybe something upto wards the lakes?

A good run I do from our end quite often is:

Over Saddleworth to Holmfirth - Holmfirth to Woodhead Pass - Woodhead to Glossop on a little bumpy twisty road - Snake pass and across to Hope and Edale.

Then if you've time/energy/petrol head over to Macclesfield via some more twisties, round the Cat and Fiddle, down Long Hill to Whaley Bridge and then back towards Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop and home for me.

Worth a shot if you like twisty fun roads.

:D
