Earning a living from home

How could you earn a modest living from a computer that isn't too time involving. For instance if you were to do it from a boat, whilst sailing around the world....hypothetically speaking of course ;)

How would you communicate with the outside world - some sort of GPS modem? Sounds expensive! Thats just for e-mails.

you could become a writer, and just use your laptop to pen your latest and greatest play / novel, as long as you will get decent cash for the script when you get back to dry land.

Or maybe you could do someones tax return, then send it to them at the next port?

But those two depend on you being a great writer / accountant!

I'm an engineer so writing is probably out of the question ;) My book would be 2 pages long, written in bullet points and full of technical drawings.

Yeah I think an expensive roaming internet connection and the use of wifi wherever possible.

Tax return idea is a good idea though

So do you want an EXTRA income, while you are engineering?

Nope. Want to up sticks and quit this 9-5 malarky. Drifing around the globe in a boat sounds about right

Working isn't for me ;)

So you wouldn't be actually working on the boat? or would you be part of the engineering crew?

If you are a young, single bloke, I would say go for it. Working tax free has a lot of benefits...ie 25 - 40% more ;)

i'd quite like to just have a 40 foot long old yacht, and live on that. So i'd just need something to bring enough money in to keep my belly full.

I have been exploring the engineering crew style work recently on these superyachts, and it looks very tempting. But it looks like it'll be £7000 to get qualified! (I was looking at UKSA)

Being serious it would be good to find something I could to make cash from home you know do it at your own pace to allow for everything else that happens....

Has anyone done anything like this, just an idea but could be good to do.

What about buying boxes of tat from car boot sales & auctions, and selling them on ebay?

Or use your boat to take people on pleasure cruises?!
