If its your first trackday on a bike, then try and go with like minded people on the same/similar bikes, helps with breaking the ice wonders and your not sorrounded by lots of 1000cc beasts. I had done trackdays before in cars but never on a bike so was nervous......I did my first one with a loads of people off here and it made the atmosphere much much better and just made the whole experience that bit easier, now its no bother but the first time without knowing what to expect was a bugger. It would be good to get a couple more big .org trackdays going, helps the newbies like me not worry so much :D |
Re: First track day
I'm booked into a beginners only day at Snetterton next month but would definately be interested in doing one with a bunch of SV'ers.

Re: First track day
Trackdays are great! Just don't get wound up in advance, at the end of the day it's just riding a bike, no reason to be nervous. Some people really freak out on track, I've done it myself in fact, there's no reason and it just holds you back. Oh, and keep your distance, if you get stuck behind someone it'll mess up your timing and cut your options, and it can be a red rag to a bull... Just back off for a half lap then go again.

Re: First track day
Really try and avoid looking at the back tyre of the car infront lol, jackhammer went wide on to the slippy stuff at silverstone and I followed him LOL

Re: First track day
Yeah the most important thing, your doing it casue its fun:smt003 Thats why we ride bikes!
I can only say from my limted experince, but on my first track day I went out with an instructor which is a really good thing to do they will give you advice and start of by teaching you basic things. Also relax which is something I need to learn, if you want take any bits like lowers and mirrors off the bike. Don't look behind either nothing to see there, remeber look where you are going. If you look at the gravel thats where you will end up. |
Re: First track day
If you have an aftermarket can on your bike, you may be too loud for Castle Combe's harsh noise standards. If you're fairly local to the circuit I think that they're happy for you to pop down to have the sound level checked out. There noise test is hard enough that a completely standard Road Legal GSXR 600 (2007) won't pass.
But the main thing is to relax and enjoy what is meant to be a fun day :D I was sharing a garage with a few guys at Brands yesterday, one of which was on his first trackday. He'd hyped himself up soooo much that after 3 sighting laps he was shaking so much he couldn't undo his helmet strap. It's meant to be fun :D |
