Riding Gear for Rain

I used to live in California but have moved to another part of USA where it rains quite a bit :(. So thought it would be best to ask UK riders as to how do they cope with it? Recommendations for riding gear in rain and/or riding tips in rainy weather?

Thanks,

hi when it's wet i use textile clothing as its more waterproof than leathers are , when the roads are wet i watch out for manhole covers tar bands and diesel

I use Hein Gerrike Goretex stuff with full armour. Not quite as good as proper leathers if you bin it,but so much more practical.
A visor insert to stop fogging is a must, and waterproof boots and gloves.
As for riding in the rain smoothness is everything.Forward vision and easy control inputs keep you on the straight and narrow.

HJC CL-SP helmet with race breath guard, Teknic Sprint Jacket, RJays (Aussie) overtrouser, Garene boots, and whatever gloves are right for the temperature.

We get a lot of rain through out the year over here, so if you ride it's just part of the fun.

Like all riding you'll only get better with practice. I'm sure it's been said many, many times before, but just slow everything down a bit in the wet. Try and ride as smoothly as you can, and be gentle on the throttle and brakes.

Remember to breath and relax. Keep your grip on the bars loose, and let the bike move around a bit under you.

Modern tyres are surprisingly good, and give pretty good grip.

Sorry that's a bit rambling. Get some decent gear and see how you go.

Since there are no windshield wipers :) what do you guys use for the helmet so that the water keeps clearing off the visor?

I occasionally wipe it with my glove, or if you lower your head towards the tank so that the wind blast coming over the screen hits your visor, this helps a lot too in very heavy rain. The faster you ride though the more the wind will clear the water drops regardless of your positioning.

spada waterproof oversuit:

http://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/usrimage/cat3350.jpg

worn over whatever you like or normally wear

sidi evo black rain goretex boots

frank thomas waterproof gloves

i've worn the above whilst riding from 7am to 10pm all day in howling gales and driving rain and arrived home dry as a bone save for the inside of the gloves being a bit damp, toasty warm

as for your visor, just turn your head from side to side occasionally and the wind will blow the droplets off, saves you scratching your visor rubbing a glove covered in road grit over it

Hi, use any sort of rain repelant on your visor, does wonders.
Just bought a set of Dainese gortex gloves with knuckle armour, dear but worth it....

Weise all in one oversuit for me. Cheap and very effective.
