Fecking Puncture!
Was out a wee run tonight and about halfway through I began to feel as if the bike was getting slower and slower to turn, eventually pulled over to inspect and would you believe it a nail in the rear tyre inbetween the tread. ****](*,)
Im also at 600 miles so need to get it serviced and puncture repaired hopefully at the same time. First puncture ever on a bike. Hopefully be able to reinflate the tyre fully and get it to the garage. Seems to be a fairly slow leak anyway and just as the weather was picking up. After the service I will be able to open her up properly! cant wait. :smt077 |
Re: Fecking Puncture!
Dont believe it just got informed today that they dont recommend repairing a puncture with a plug on a high performance machine!? Dam waste of a good tyre. :smt103
That and the cost of a new one. |
Re: Fecking Puncture!
Touch wood ...... never had a puncture on the bike
But, I'm sure there's a few on here who have and have had them plugged |
Re: Fecking Puncture!
Who is "they"? Sounds like you are being mugged. Sounds like it is repairable but they would rather take £130 of you than £15 for a repair.
Done plenty of track days myself and know plenty of others who have with 'shroomed tyres. If a repaired tyre freaks you out at all and will lessen your enjoyment of your bike, get a new one. In 16yrs I have had 1 front puncture but probably a dozen rear. Weird. :) |
Re: Fecking Puncture!
Some shops don't like to do repairs, to be fair it's not just about making money, if a repair pops they could find themselves with attack lawyers at their doors, easier to just say "No". I've done, oh, 20000 miles with patched tyres, and 2 trackdays (forgot it was there!) without any problems but I also decided not to patch my old rear because of the size of the hole- damage to the rubber is fine but damage to the carcass is not. Oh yeah, I'd only use mushroom plugs from the inside rather than string from the outside, though that's just a personal prejudice/kneejerk.
Patches aren't made of dynamite- if they fail, all you get is the same puncture back- so my rule is generally, if the initial puncture didn't make me crap myself, I'll patch it. |
Re: Fecking Puncture!
"They" are Mickey Oates and to be fair "a repair was unofficially offered but we take no responsibility etc etc..." and to be honest I could see their point as the puncture was about an inch from the edge of the tyre.
And in all honesty it would have played on my mind when going for it so I suppose it is best to get a new tyre if for nothing but peace of mind. |
