Plumbing advice (Sort of)

I've got one of those ar mixer tap things for the bath/shower. Problem is we live in a hard water area so the temp adjustment end gets a bit difficult to turn as it gets chalked up. How do I go about cleaning the internals? Is it just a case of un-doing the screw in the end of the temp control or do i have to turn the water off & take them off completely? If I need to turn the water off from the mains will this affect the boiler or anything while I drain the water out of the bath/shower pipes?

Or shall I get the professionals in????:)

I'm guessing it's a thermostatic mixer shower you've got from the description you've given. To descale it properly you'll need to shut the water off and take the valve out, if the person who fitted did a decent job they will have fitted some service valves so you can isolate the bath/shower without turning off at the main stopcock.

If you're getting a lot of scaling in your taps etc maybe consider getting a water softener fitted

Hard water, soft water! We just got the wet variety here.

Sympathise for those who do have the mineral pollution in their water. It makes your brews taste awful. And beer taste naff. I tried the stuff once down sarf. Didn't go back
