Watch out for bikes on the the news
Glad to see a more positive spin on things....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/surrey/7433212.stm What are the other councils and authorities doing locally? |
Re: Watch out for bikes on the the news
I was listening to local radio *shudders* the other day and they were running a similar advert frequently.

Re: Watch out for bikes on the the news
Most bike roads here in Shropshire have big yellow posters up, 'Beware Bikers' with a drawing of a bike cranked over. Otherwise - nothing.

Re: Watch out for bikes on the the news
I drive a VW T4 surfbus and the amount of times people cut me up is unreal (bearing in mind its big and white), Drivers just need to look period and stop using mobiles too. I was in a navy blue and yellow Coastguard car with blue lights all over it today and a van driver pulled out with no intention of stopping and no indication so i followed him at a distance and he cut me up in the outside lane again on the phone with no indication. Is anyone else noticing how bad drivers are getting?
Plenty of signs no action in Norfolk or Suffolk! |
Re: Watch out for bikes on the the news
Do you think it would be a good thing for those sorts of stats to be on national news? I do. Also, do people think bikes are as slow as cars?!

Re: Watch out for bikes on the the news
Interesting they're suggesting bikers make themselves more visible. I still get people pulling out on me while riding a bright yellow DRZ with the lights on. If they get away with it a few times, I'm sure they think it's OK and bikes will always be able to stop in time. Really need to get louder horns fitted (or a footie sock with a tennis ball in the end!!)

Re: Watch out for bikes on the the news
Footie sock with a tennis ball? Why not a snooker ball? Out riding yesturday and some guy, I think he might have been on the phone, just drifted into my lane blissfully unaware I was right behind him! I had a high viz and dipped lights on too.

"What is tragic about these figures is that the people who are more likely to be killed or injured are often completely blameless."
Finally- public recognition!!! I know that there are idiots about in every vehicle and I do daft things from time to time, but people don't always seem to realise that bikers take more care, because we stand to lose so much more if it all goes wrong. |

I just use them as an indicator that the road is going to be interesting. The ones for bikes usually read 207 seriously injured motorcyclists on this road in the past 3 years etc. Those I pay attention to |
