Route advise please, Edinburgh to Scarborough
I'm heading down tomo afternoon to visit a friend who lives down there. We are going to head to a kit car show on sat and then to Olivers Mount on Sunday for the Barry Sheene race festival. http://www.oliversmount.com/?f=events&id=26 :)
Anyway, I've been down to his once before but it was in the car and I just let Tom Tom do the navigating:driving:. This time is different though, this will be my first 'long' bike run and I want to make it a good one. Any thoughts on a route? I have come up with two thoughts:- A68 from Edin down and then work my way over, or A1 to Newcastle and then on to the A19 and A171 along the East coast. What does everyone think? |

Hmm, if I wanted to go to Scarborough, I wouldn't start from Edinburgh. ;-)

Re: Route advise please, Edinburgh to Scarborough
Trying to think of the way I normally get home. I usually head out of Edinburgh, through Dalkeith, head for Jedburgh, over to Pontiland (past the airport turnoff), head along to the A1, down to the A19, through to Middlesbrough, then somehow find the A171 to Guisborough and then across to Scarborough. You could of course head from the A19 down the A172 to Stokesley, then take the Helmsley road (have even more fun) and then onto the A170.
Haven't taken the above route for a while, so from memory, but it used to be fun anyway :) |

cheers, I think thats what im going to plan for, down on to the A19, then the A170. I've had a look at the map and it looks like a good wee road :p

Oh I like the road out of Dalkeith and down past the border stone, I hardly ever go up and down the A1 to Scotland. Nice road, but last time I was there had it's fair share of speed camera's as well. Hope the weather stays nice for you.
