What the hell is Madeira?
 

Not the cake, the "wine"

I've just opened a bottle given to us a gift last christmas (I can't be arsed moving house with it, so drinking it sounded like a better idea.....) and I feel like Dot Cotton on a Friday lunchtime.

Am I doing it wrong?

Fortified wine, rather like a smooth port, made (of course) on Madeira. Yum, and excellent with cake, or cheese and fruit platter; wasted in gravy.
