Am i overheating?
I finally have something to talk about on here now :D but for all the wrong reasons :smt011.
I have a 2001 curvy and if i am at lights for a while i get the red temperature light come on, so am i overheating? Does this happen to anybody else? If its bad does anybody have any ideas? I have checked the coolant and its up to the neck of the rad, and there isnt any leaks. The only other thing i can think of is the water pump may not be working if there is something wrong. Can anybody help? |
Re: Am i overheating?
DO curveys have fans on them ? maybe that has packed up ..... something else to consider .

Re: Am i overheating?
Yea it has a fan on it, the last time i had it idleing for a while in the garage the fan came on. I will have to check again tomorrow to see if it does come on to make sure.

Re: Am i overheating?
ive never been stationary and seen the fan running on mine if that helps. even after a rele good run at 80 90 its still not even that hot to be honest. think there maybe some thing wrong ive never seen the the temp light come up at all.

Re: Am i overheating?
i had the bike running in the garage for 15 min and the thermostat works as the radiator is hot one side and cooler the other, the fan comes on before the light comes on but doesnt make the light go out. Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Am i overheating?
You don't need to see the fan turning. You can hear it. So I guess you have a fan failure if your temp warning light has come on
|
Re: Am i overheating?
I've also seen before that the temp sensor resistor was goosed on a curvy. This lead to a temperature reading above what it actually was.
Might account for it. |
Re: Am i overheating?
I'd flush the coolant and check the thermostat operation to be sure too.

Re: Am i overheating?
when thermostats are working correctly...
the radiator should remain cold, until a certain point in wich it suddenly gets hot, on all points. If a radiator is hot one side and not the other possibly you have a lazy 'stat (half open half closed) OR a blockage in the rad somewhere. when thermostats can be bought for little money its worth changing it regardless! |
Re: Am i overheating?
I agree with Ian on that count , get a new stat for peace of mind , do as Yorkie Chris says and have new coolant mix , you said the fan comes on so it isn`t that and check the lead as Baph stated , pretty much covers the usual suspects then .
