nebie has a strange rattle
hey guys just wanted to say hi!! i just picked up a 07 650 pointy and just love it . my question is it has 1600 km on it now and i have developed a rattle in the engine at 5k rpm it almost sounds like the the valve train chain is rattling against the case , i bought the bike used as it only had 500km on it . any thoughts you have would be gratefull
cheers |

no idea...... sorry
but let me be the 1st to welcome you to the MADHOUSE |
Re: nebie has a strange rattle
First, check the oil levels. Engines can get a bit noisy if the oil level is low.
Secondly, clean and lubricate the chain. Bikes can get a bit noisy with a dirty chain. Thirdly, does the rattle persist throughout the rev-range? I doubt the tensioners would have died with only 1600 km on it. If you are in doubt, get the tensioners checked. fourthly, go out and give the bike a good thrash, with lots of acceleration and deceleration. SV engines love this - my engine has a strange ticky noise between 4 and 5 thousand rpm, which goes away if the bike is used as it was intended to be used. Its something resonating, most likley the final drive chain. Matt |

thanks for the welcome , forgot to tell you i'm from toronto canada , mine does it between 4-5k and goes away after 5.5-6k the oil level is correct and had a oil change @500km and i'm changing it again tonight and lubing the chain |
Re: nebie has a strange rattle
I think that rattle then is normal, becasue I have exactly the same thing on my 28,000 mile 1999 bike :D
clean the chain first with liquid parrifin, get all the old crap out, clean that off then use a good chain lube. I dunno if you get it over the pond, but Wurth High Performance Dry Chain Lube is excellent, and it isnt messy Matt |
