Recommend me a bike

I am 18 years old. No NCB
Have had 1 accident, write off - £3800 payout (on my SV)

Need to get a bike and basically was looking for recommendations.
to give you a quick idea on insurance - I was paying £1000/year fully comp on the brand new SV. They now want £1800 after my accident for fully comp
so I'm thinking older bike and just take TPFT. which means...

Something like an IL4 (one of the older ones) could be a good bet as I've been quoted £1600 fully comp on a gsxr600 (99 model) so TPFT should be closer to £1k what I was paying before.

I'm not really a fan of most nakeds, the speed triple is hot but what can I do aye.

Any ideas? I know I'm going to be paying a lot first few years, especially after a fault accident. I'm not overly bothered about speed (provided it moves) Maybe a 400?

cheers for any advice,

Dave

I reckon look at one of the 400s, paying that sort of money for insurance will make you cry in a few years when you realise you could have got a brand new bike for what you've paid.

The 400s will handle pretty nicely, main difference being straight line speed, but then do you really care about that?

anything with a "R" in the title will be expensive

try a quote for a curvy worth £1200 TP only or THFH ?

or bandit, CB500

vfr400. some fo those go just as well as the sv, and pretty cheap as their age. its easier to find a naked bike cheaper than a fully loaded faired bike.

Just get another SV and insure it TPFT.

If your 18, i assume you have it restricted? I:4s can be a bit weak restricted compared to twins

Have a go on an older Fazer 600 if you fancy a change. They come half faired like the SV and aren't too bad restricted either.

Looked at a VFR400 on biketrader - was really nice £800 so pretty cheap too. Checked out insurance TPFT - £4600 :o

Not sure if that is bennetts being bennets (as i find its easy to do an online quote there) or if there's a reason behind it? Trouble is im out of the country in a week so i'm not actually going to be able to buy anything till the end of the month.

Which insurance company did you phone? Is the bike exquisitely fashioned from diamond and gold? Try phoning around, my friend bought a VFR400 about the same time I got my SV, we were 17 and he paid about ?400 TPFT (less than for my SV). I've been with Carole Nash the last couple of years, they seem usually the cheapest for me, give them a try.
