New house help will bills

By the power of GreySkull, can I can on the mighty .org for some help please!

I have just moved into a shared house (uni) there are 5 of us. The previous tennants said they have cancled all the bills, so I have to start from scratch. How do I find out who is best/cheepest for everything, gas/electirc/water/phone + internet ?

Also how should the bills be done, put in everyones name, or just a few of us?
I was thinking of setting up a joint account for everyone to pay into every month, and having the bills go from that.

Any help is greatly aprechiated (sp??) as I have no idea what I am doing, I am the preverbial brackish water fish being kept in either marine for fresh conditions........ :fish: lol

Wait for the bill to come......... divide by 5......get cash from everyone........pay at post office.

I would hate to be in that situation though, there is bound to be one greedy ******* who leaves a computer on all the time or uses a crap load more energy

Have all bills in all names, then you are all equally liable. If you put them in (for example) your name, then all your mates decide they won't pay, it is you that is legally responsible for the bills on your own. Joint names = joint liability.

Just make something up. It's only so they can show you how much you could save compared t your current package.

You ought to get them to sign a contract that they will pay on time and in the agreed shares.
