quick cam chain question
yes anther thread!!
a slight clicking / tapping noise has developed on the sv, has been like it for a roughly 3000 miles maybe more now to me it sounds like the cam chain is slapping ever so slightly but i dont know anyone local with a curvy to compare it with and i forgot about it at AR how hard is it to check, I've read the guide on the main site and the writer goes on about some special tool needed to retract the plunger  is it likely to be the cam chain or the valves? help much appreciated |
Re: quick cam chain question

Re: quick cam chain question
take the top off of the tensioner and with a slim screw driver rewind it in, then let it pop back out-it might sort it, if it doesn't pop back out you'll know that the tensioners screwed-they can stick sometimes.

Re: quick cam chain question
Easier said than done, they're a bit of a git to get to.
Apparently, putting it in gear and rocking it backwards slightly can let the tensioner click out another notch. No idea whether it works or whether it's safe, though it does make sense. They all make a bit of noise though, ljharmit had a video out at one point with what they sound like when they're about to go pop expensively. More of a "slapslapslap" than any tappety type noise. They need quite a bit of slack to jump teeth and hurt things! |

Empty's guide to looking at your cam chain tensioners....

Re: quick cam chain question
what is the mileage that they usually go wrong? mines on at 13800, but i do occupationally give it some
EDIT: just seen ljharmit vid, mine is no where near as bad as that mine is just a light tappy click noise not a huge slap |
