Bang!

My engine went pop today at 30mph:( pootling along behind a lorry on my way to Aberystwyth for the day. Stopped at a junction and could hear a very loud ticking/ banging noise.

Thought i had something wrapped around the front wheel to start with but upon further investigation found the noise to be coming from the front cylinder.:( Sounds to me like the piston is hitting the valves but my knowledge of engine internals is limited :(

Phoned the RAC and 2.5hrs later got the bike to local garage. They started it and I could see them grimmacing. The look on their faces said it all.

"Thats major engine failure" They said. :(

Im waiting for the phone call to confirm the damage and cost:(

I feel so peed off, I have pampered this bike. Oil and filter every 3k, new plugs and air filter the other day plus loads of elbow grease to keep it looking mint.

This makes me feel like hanging up my leathers and walking away:(:(......

Anyone got any thoughts on the problem?????

Feel sick and very annoyed.:(

When did you last check your oil level ? and is your bike a known for using oil ?

Personally I reckon you'd find it cheaper to get another engine and swap the whole lot over, rather than getting your knackered one rebuilt.

Funnily enough I checked it before I left this morning :-(

£200 for another engine then theres no guarantee :-(

Yep Ebay special. :D

Sound like big end trouble if its comming from the bottom. If it was smacking the valves I dont think the bike would have been running.

You could always get a Falco. :D

the worst thing you can do is give up

just get it priced up, and replace whats got to be replaced, theres loads of parts for the sv including engines

and think positive

Id say the chances of it happening again is fairly low. Its not a common thing with these engines. So you should be fine.

don't be disheartened, if the valves were hitting the piston you would know about it, to be honest i doubt it would run

find a good engine workshop and ask them how much to fix it, then look at prices of second hand engines from breakers, and make a decision based on that:)

Why would you give up because the engine has given up? These things happen, how many miles has the bike done?

If I gave up when things went wrong I would have quite work 10 times this week already lol.

Same opinion here. Don't let the garage start working on the engine or your going to be paying out a heap of money. Do as others have said, get another engine.
