Irresponsible bike riders

Last night on the way home in the car nearly ran into two of them riding without lights. These were not kids but mature adults with racing gear on
but either dark or grey colours. One of them was riding on the A12 and the other local in an unlit lane. Just where do cyclists get off flaunting the law?
It really peeves me that if I collide with one of them or serve and have an accident ,damaging my car or m/bike the are not insured and would probably just carry on regardless

I have just had a reply to a thread I posted but it is no longer on idle banter.

My bad I had a sense of humour failure I deleted it.

I cycle, I cycle alot. I'm fedup with sweepnig generalisations and random statements and how the media like to make cyclists out the be the black sheep amongst road users and I object to be sterotyped because I'm a cyclist.

Ok so at 9:15, 9:20pm its on its way to getting dark, I'm not sure what the regulations are regarding lighting up at night. I believe its around dusk time though.

I agree its probably not wise riding about when its getting dark, but its the generalisations about "flouting the law" and the same old tired "No tax, no insurance" remarks that get my goat.

Re: Irresponsible bike riders

I have to say that I'm in both camps, kinda.

I do find your average joe on a bike who runs red lights, mounts the pavement seemingly on a whim and has no insurance to be someone I detest on the road (or the aforementioned pavement ;))...

... but my brother cycles alot. His gear costs alot, his bike costs a hell of a lot...

... and though he pays no road tax he at least does have insurance coverage. Not just of theft or damage to his bike, but also liability cover in case of an accident.
Now during the few coversations we've had about the percieved menace to the road using society made by uninsured cyclists, he tells me that many you see in full kit and caboodle are more than likely to actually be insured.

Take that as you will, but it has made me rethink my perceptions and generalisations regarding cyclists...

... like motorcyclists I guess, they're not all bad.;)

The only thing that pee's me off about cyclists is when they ride 2/3/4 abreast & hold up the rest of the traffic who can't get past(at the end of the day, their not taxed ..i am)so i can't be blamed for the odd time i've riden close up & slapped them on the back of the head.

STICK TO YOUR CYCLE LANE!!!(if there is one)

I agree with the 2 or 3 abreast thing. But I'm interested in what benefit to the general road user populace / societ you think that taxing pedal bikes would bring.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement.
