SV 13th best selling bike of 2007

I'm not sure how authoritative these guys are (Motor Cycle Industry Association), but based upon the figures in the pdf at the bottom of this page, I make the SV the 13th best selling bike of 2007 with 1265 registrations (yeah - I know not all registrations are sales), and the No 1 seller in the Sport/Touring category.

Totally useless fact, but it is quite interesting seeing how the sales break down. :p

And the top seller was the Yam YZR125.

Sales are dropping for the SV in 2008, and that was before the economic issues we are having here in the UK. Too many secondhand Pointy's on the market, Suzuki do need to update the SV650 if they want to start shifting them again.

I read in Bike yesterday that sales were going up with bikes in general. No suprise that SV sales are dropping slightly (if thisis the case), something fresh is needed, I'd be unlikely to buy a bike that was released 5 years ago if buying new, I'd want some wow factor.

I don't know it's still new to the owner. I bought an 08 earlier this year and because most people looking in the same category seem to be buying an ER-6 I wanted something less 'common' and went for an already established bike because i guess most people opt for your way of thinking maybe. I also think the SV is better looking, esp with the red seat! I don't need the wow factor I already am lol.

I think when you compare it to a sportsbike you can see the update problem. There are people who buy a new Gixxer every couple of years to have the latest model (or 'Blade or R6). The current SV is 5 years old with no styling changes - there is no incentive for people who love their SV to go out and buy an '08 model as it's the same as the '03-'07 they already have.

If you look at it that way that might be right I don't know. I'm talking about the naked version anyway. A friend has an 03 bike and she says mine is much more modern, I don't know exactly what the differences are but one main obvious difference is the FI instead of carbs.

Indeed. It will be interesting to see what an update will do to the sales... The other issue is that the 2nd hand market is pretty packed with SV's so to buy new is less common.
