New (second hand) car or spend out on current?
 

Right. Either my current car (Mk3 Golf GTi) needs 2 grand spent on it or I spend 2 grand on a new (second hand) car.

What do you reckon.

As fizzwheel said, what needs to be done on your car? Apart from the 2 grand that needs to be spent on it - how does the car run?

Theres no guarentee (sp??) that the next car you get will be better value for money i.e. you might need to spend extra on it if it has a problem. But theres alos no guarentee (sp??) that your current car wont need anymore money spent on it.

It all boils down to how much you like you car, how much you want it (or not) and how much you'd like a new one.

2k is a guess. I don't think it will cost that much, but that is the kind of budget I'm kinda setting. It actually runs OK, but could do with a full service including cambelt change. Guess thats gonna be quite expensive in inself. Other things required are:

Shocks and springs front and rear
Front top mounts
CV gaiters
4 tyres
Possibly front discs
Also needs some wheel arch mouldings / sill mouldings
Rear windscreen wiper arm (not just the blade)
Rear offside window doesn't work
New key lock on the drivers side

I think I'd be better off fixing the Golf up rather than getting another car. 2k is only gonna buy me a ****ter really.

Like you say 2K and you might end up with a sh*tter.

That lot just looks like wear and tear. If the rest of the car is sound I'd be spending on the Golf. Does it all need doing or can you do it in dribs and drabs ?

Shocks gaiters and tyres will need doing to get it through the MOT. The other bits are as and when.

You guys have just comfirmed what I thought was the right thing to do. If i spend 2 grand on it, it will last another 3 years easily without spending anything else on it.
