Spoke wheels

Has anyone done this befor? Mounting spokewheels on a SV? I think it will look very cool on my naked, because I like the retro-style.

Something like the Moto Morini...

Would be nice on a retro/cafe racer bike like yours. Are you going painted, chrome or stainless? Or still to decide?

I think I will start with just chrome, it depends on which rims I will use. Also thinking of a mono rear end and a nice retro paintjob, nothing rediculous.

But first things first and find all the stuff I need. :)

Dual disc front hubs aren't all that easy to find unfortunately, since most supermotos run single front discs. That's going to be your most complicated part I think, it's what put me off most. But, I've since found that a single disc is actually pretty decent on the SV if you use good parts (mine has a modern radial caliper, a big 330mm disc and a brembo radial m/c, and works well, though I'm not pushing it massively hard even on track)

But, the new Yam tenere has a dual disc front hub, as do some BMWs (the later funduro I think). And you can lace a 17" rim to those, most likely.

ktm/magura racing front brake with 310mm disc would quite happily launch me over the bars of the 560 with one finger, i reckon it should have enough juice to stop the SV, but you'll generate 4x the heat stopping from twice the speed so perhaps not the best idea for racing...?

I'd love to do this to my SV as its going to be a finished cafe racer in a couple of weeks ;)

Yep. Mine's stood up well to trackdays but maybe someone fast would find it different. Certainly for racing it'd be a bit brave :D The humungous disc does help though. Praps there's one out there that'll fit to a spoker.

Just looked at the svrider site and there's a fantastic picture of a chromed sv with spoked wheels...

About halfway down the page.

I love the cafe racer look on sv's - hopefully soon I'll be able to get it done on mine...

Re: Spoke wheels

This will be harder than I tought.
The biggest problem is the front wheel. Because I still want to use the upsd from the R1, I have to look for a wheel that fits the R1 braking discs (main reson: the diameter of the discs is 298mm...). Some models of the Virago have a spoke wheel where the discs fit on, but the wheel bearings have a big difference in size. The axle diameter of the R1 is 22mm and of the Virago it is only 15mm. There are no bearings I can mount into the virago-wheel that I can use and to make a custom axle is also no option, to complicated... Anyone with an idea???

The rear wheel wil be less difficult I think.
