Knackered speedo(not that old chestnut again!)
Usual probs, speedo can read 0 when flat out or 186 when sitting at standstill, but I'm also getting the red light on the dash, water coolant sign and FI on and where the temp usually reads it's flashing FI and HI. The oil pressure has been checked and is ok, the coolant is ok and it can,t be running hot because it's flashing HI when the bike has just been started from cold so I am guessing that the dash unit is sh***ed, unless it's the wiring leading up to it. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hmmm another K3 with a 186mph issue... that specifically is quite rare, and between you and me I think.
I think it's a new sensor - not just a rotor. But haven't had a go at fixing mine yet. |

Mine too on K3. On the way back from AR08 it was reading all over the place on the motorway. Has been fine since, even at speed. Now yesterday it was reading random again and this morning it just reads constant 0 at any speed.
Guess I'll break out the Haynes and have a go at disassembling, cleaning and testing voltages for starters and I guess I need a front paddock stand? |

No idea about the speedo reading 186 at standstill - that does sound like more than a rotor.
flimbar - your speedo reading random numbers on and off then finally dying is classic busted rotor symptoms - it starts reading funny as the little fins on the rotor start to disintegrate until they break off completely at which point it reads 0. I guess you might be lucky in between as the rotor finds bits to catch on and give a good reading for a bit. Easy enough to change - from a parts diagram looks the same as on a curvy so whip the front wheel axle out/front wheel off to get access to the sensor, seal off, then inspect the rotor. Most likely you will have to get all the bits of crap out of the sensor with a screw driver. Replace with part number 34983-21E00 from http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/sh...rts/index.html Plenty of posts on this already as its a common problem. |

Thanks Spoon, very helpful indeed :thumleft:
Just to confirm, replacing the rotor fixed it, great stuff. |
