Miles and services
Ive just had a thought, if all speedos over read, dosent that meen that the service intervals are even nearer than they should be??
there is a speed trap that shows how fast you are going on campus, I go through (often) at an indicated 32mph and the speed trap screen shows 29mph. So thats a 3mph over read. Assuming that this is only incrasing the over read in a linear way, so 64mph would actaully be 58mph, we could be getting jipped even more!! for ease of maths 5024 miles indicated (for a service interval) would actaully only be 4553 miles covered. which over a life time of bike ownership and servicing is a fair amount of miles. also you have to take into account resale value, 10,000 miles indicated is nearer 9,000 actually covered, which would keep the resale value of weekend blast bikes higher for longer. and then fuel economy stats, would also be lower if the bike/car had to travel the actually distance rather than indicated distance. maybe a conspiracy?? :batman: |
Re: Miles and services
I don't beleive it is a fixed limit over read, but yes you are right in that the odemeter is also over reading.

Re: Miles and services
I could be wrong, but aren't the speedo & mileage taken from different sources on the bike, so the mileage should be pretty accurate?

So, if the faster you go, the more the speedo overreads, then the more mileage the odo will show for the same journey if you ride it at a higher average speed? |
Re: Miles and services
No because the difference between actual and indicated speed is a percentage rather than a fixed amount.
So let say you are riding at 33mph indicated which is actually 30mph. So if you travel at 33mph (indicated) for and hour indicated you will actually travel 30Miles If you travel at 66mph (indicated) for half an hour you will travel 30 miles. Am I explaining myself clearly? Apologies if not. |
Re: Miles and services
Hmmm unsure but my 675 is rapidly coming up for her year service!!-well its that or 6k miles (whatever comes first...), looks the year will come first LOL

Maths was never my strong point! |
Re: Miles and services
Guess this gets worse when the tyres wear, or when cornering (reduced rolling radius?).

Re: Miles and services
And if you wheelie it a lot with the front brake on you can travel miles yet go nowhere.
