any possible problems with overfilling engine oil?
Hi,
Just a quick one, im really not mechanically minded and dont really do much with my bike (apart from clean and keep chain maintained)...anyway... about a week ago I thought id look at the engine oil view window...couldnt see ANYTHING in there (yes the bike was upright;))...so i grabbed a bottle of relevant oil stuck the funnel in and started to fill bit by bit...hold bike upright..waiting for oil to be just under the upper line...this seemed to take an age and I ended up putting the full 1ltr bottle in...than as I was Watching the oil go up in the window...it went right up above the upper line and carried on going right up out of view of the window....so its over full.... just over a week later and its still up out of sight...are there any major problems that could occur from over filling the oil?..not really noticed anything thus far....but my gears seem a bit stiffer to change since... anywhoo...gues it wasnt that much of a quick one!!! lol cheers all Dappa D:smt039 |

I did the exact same thing as you about 2 months ago (see here) Found it easier to drain some out through the sump plug bolt but it was a messy job.
Good job you asked :) |
Re: any possible problems with overfilling engine oil?
I overfilled by about 70ml once and felt really guilty, so I used a series of straws to get it out. Good times.

Re: any possible problems with overfilling engine oil?
I did the same earlier this year. I was a bit paranoid about it until it was back to a sensible level. I've definitely noticed it runs a lot better with the oil under the full level.

hi all just an update...
went down the syringe route with a bit of medical tubing (the type used on drips?) and it didnt work as the tube was too flexible.... so being and absolute genius and a fat barsteward with a few mcdonalds straws lying about I attached this to the syringe with some tape and it worked a treat! if i have done this right u should see a pic of my contraption!!! Thanks for all ur help Dappa D |
