Broken mount point, what to do
My new engine arrived this morning thanks to the lovely people at Fedex, however it seems they've managed to break the lower engine mount point on the bottom left side of the engine .

Re: Broken mount point, what to do
You can't really change the crank casing, that is the engine, you'd have to swap all the crank bearings over and everything, that risks getting some very odd wear.
Can you post a pic of the damage? |
Re: Broken mount point, what to do
I'll throw up a few more

Re: Broken mount point, what to do
Hmmm. I would say you've got 4 options
get fedex to buy you a new one leave the damage as it is, it'll #probably# be fine fill it with weld and rebore the mounting chemical metal or similar (not really that strong) |
Re: Broken mount point, what to do
Orrr you could cut the mounting down flush and make a little spacer. Not really critical dimensions either as that monuting point is on an adjustable spacer and lockring.

Re: Broken mount point, what to do
It'll prob be fine, but then again ...i'll be claiming off fedex any way, i wonder would it really matter if it want bolted on, or perhaps i could construct some form of a brace system ... or something to slip over it that was threadded on the inside, it woudlnt be 100% but perhaps it would be better then nothing.... im just so f*ked off tho ..

Re: Broken mount point, what to do
On the brightside at least your engine didn't get lost by the courier for a week or so!

Re: Broken mount point, what to do
If the engine was shipped with insurance then first make a claim with Fedex.

lol cheaky fecker DD Well folks thanks to chris im a bit more optomstic, that mount point is hollow all the way through so worst case would be to get some sort of extra long bolt and slot it back down in to it untill it's close to the other side, hopefully this will reinforce it a little... any way the garage cant take it till friday so there nout all i can do for the mo bar look at it, and plan i guess ... I can also sit on the bike and make engine noises ... but thats getting a little old at this stage |
