TT's long gone think I may go over for it next year (but probably not on the bike apparently it's really dangerous and coppers love snapping the tourists). Went last week on the bank holiday - only saw four SVs!

Unless things have changed radically in the 5 yrs since we went - it's not particularly dangerous - you just have to ensure you that you aren't tempted to ride beyond your limitations & accept that there will be LOT of very fast (sometimes stupidly so [IMHO]) riders around & not be tempted to try & keep up with them !!

As for the police I don't know where your information came from but I can't say that I had any problems or have heard of any problems with them picking on tourists. If anything, they bend over backwards to keep as low a profile as possible as they realise that so much of the island's income comes from the biking events held there. yes, if you behave / ride like a tw*t in the towns & villages they will hammer you - but seeing as there's plenty of places that you can let rip - why bother ?

Whilst we were there we stopped for lunch at 'The Craig' and got talking to a couple of bike coppers who explained to us the next series of bends and added that ". . . it looks as though you need to brake - don't bother, just nail it, you can take it flat out no problem . . ." - tell me where you';; get advice like that from a copper over here !!

Yea if you speed they do... which is fair since most limits are 30. Their national speed limit though is as fast as you like.
