Akrapovic on an 08 sensor issue query

Hi all,

I'm having an Akrapovic full system put on my lovely '08 SV650 Sport at the moment, however the garage just called with a problem:

As there is no Lambda (oxygen) sensor slot on this exhaust they usually fit a resistor to the lambda sensor so it doesn't throw an error on the ECU, however there is no resistor available for the 08 model SV650! He wanted to use an '07 version but good old Suzuki have doubled the voltage since '07 he tells me.

Have any of you lot fitted an aftermarket full exhaust to an 08 SV and had to get around the lack of a labda sensor?

At the moment when mine is started it displays the engine management light, and he's a bit worried it'll mess my fuelling up.

He also tells me one route would be to find someone who can drill a hole in the new system and install the existing sensor there, but this is something they cannot do.

Any help/sources greatly appreciated! I was hoping to get the bike back thursday but now it isn't looking so good :(

Has anybody fitted a full system to a 2008 and got round this?

As far as I know, very few people have had this issue due to very few people with K8 SV's fitting an after-market exhaust!

Where should the sensor be, in the link-pipe part or in the can itself?

Oh man, that's annoying, any reason why or just because it's early days?

Well, the sensor goes in the link-pipe bit that they've already replaced to put the new lot on, I believe. Like the 2007 model but different voltage for some great probably pretty pointless reason.
Otherwise i'm going to have to try and find a welder in Brum that can punch a hole in the pipe and add a thread :/ Dunno if that's doable.

Presumably they can work out what resistor they need even though the voltage has changed?

That's what I'd have thought. I'll Google some more when I get a moment but nothing yet. Otherwise I'll try calling Akrapovic perhaps.

Good idea, they will tell you for sure what they recommend. I haven't put a full system on a K8 yet, my logic would be to follow the same route as with a K7. Are they sure it is different, the bikes are identical?

I wouldn't bother putting the sensor into the Akrapovic system as it would screw things up, it works on the principal that it would be a stock bike.

Ah, thanks Dave :). So i'd get a warning anyway due to the different exhaust pressures etc?

I'm pretty sure the guys at the garage tried the k7 resistor but it didn't do the job, he said the voltage going to the sensor appears to be double that of the K7 and 'normal bikes'.

there is a reason the sensor is there, the SV is now a closed loop fuel system, the sensor compensates fueling on the engine, it would be probably best to get the nut wealded onto the pipework and fitted, as its k8 its still under warranty and keep running it on FI your warranty is possably up the spout

FI means what sorry?
