tips on "streetfighter" look on sv650
Hi,
im about to buy an sv650. Before i buy one, i'd like a bit of advice if anyones happy to help. i will be buying a standard sv. all want to do, is change the front headlight. remove fareing (im really not in to fareings), give the rear fender the lift up (pointy?) and fit some pro tapers (or renthal) bars. what do i need to do to fit the mx bars? wil li need a new top yoke or will mx bars fit straight on with with new bar clamps? will all the electrics be long enough to fit onto mx bars? looking at pictures, the sv clutch is cable? can it be converted to hydraulic? would it need to be? i ride a ktm enduro bike, and love the feel of the hydraulic clutch. maybe that convertionisnt necessary? thanks for your time :) |

Why dont you buy a naked SV rather than a faired one to start with. You'd be in a much better place to start with that and it'll be easier to make it into what you want that way IMHO.
If you have a search you should find plenty of threads about this kind of thing. |

Re: tips on "streetfighter" look on sv650
+1 to Fizz's suggestion to start with a naked bike !!
But as for a couple of your specific questions :- Handlebars - The standard cables should be ok if you intend to use Renthal Ultra-lows (or similar) - anything higher and you may need to replace them. Rear fender 'lift' - I assume you mean raise the whole rear end ? it can be done by using shorter tie-bars - however the amount of 'lift' will not be significant - if you wish to go further I'm sure that there are more knowledgeable people than me who can explain how it can be done - just be aware that the whole geometry of the bike will change & you will increse its tendency to 'shake its head' at higher speeds. The above should only be considered valid if it is a POINTY SV you are considering - I know nothing whatsoever about CURVY'S. P.S. <pedant mode> Changing the headlight, jacking the bike up & adding Renthals does NOT make it a streetfighter !! </pedant mode> Best of luck !! :D |
