computer problem

afternoon.

can anyone reccomend a decent (pref free) virus checker?

followed the orgs previous advice and have tried spyware doctor, spybot, and ccleaner and have bullguard installed.

it seems like there is something stopping my security programmes updating, bullguard has probs connecting, spybot has probs updating and big fix has a runtime error...

it will start fine, load fine but as soon as you get to using the thing it just freezes... cant even start task manager. seems like something is diverting memory somewhere.

works fine in safe mode but obviously this is not ideal. hasnt been right since i installed vista most recent service pack.

to stop me getting the hammer out, does any one have any suggestions that dont involve percussive maintenance?

thanks all

tom

Im sure also that for £25 you can get the 07 versions of most of the main AV/Internet security suites form the likes of PC world at the moment, if not, it will be soon as they make way for the 2009 versions.
