heres the dilema

my sister has a tree to the side of her fence on the back garden that is over grown. its not a samll tree and the branches that hang in her garden are pretty huge. she called the council to get it pruned and they came round saying there was nothing they could do as it wasent a health and saftey issue.

Now during the bad weather and wind one of these branches break of lands in the garden. If my neice had been out playing she could have clumped a branch on the head. (i infomed council this and they were not bothered)

So i called the council for her and another visit later still no joy.

They did however say i could cut back the branches and i must dispose of them,,,(go figure as i dont even own this tree) and it would mean paying someone with a cherry picker to reach em

Im not to sure where to turn next, maybe some of you lot have some ideas?

You need whats called a vegetation order from the council.

Either that or help the tree duting bad weather. (wink wink)

I thought you had a legal obligation to give the branches back to the owner of the tree?? Take it to the local council office, that should pee them off!!

Your sister should be perfectly within her rights to prune those branches hanging into her garden, and then "return" the same over the fence.

Borrow chainsaw... chop tree ... bonfire ... marshmallows ... result.

You can trim any of the tree that hangs over your garden as long as what you do could not potently kill the tree. As the tree is your neighbours property then you can return it for them to deal with, though I would speak to them first as chopping up a tree and just chucking it over the fence could just tick them off.

Get hold of the longest drill bit you can find, drill into the base and roots, fill hole with diesel. One dead tree. The council will HAVE to remove it then.

poison + thrown over the fence = tree dead, job done

then there will be health and safety issue :shock:
