Running out of fuel.

Well, it had to happen eventually:D

The saving grace being that it was the KTM so pushing it was no great hardship, and as an added bonus it's broken in my Sidi Crossfires nicely:cool:

I guess you live and learn*

*that when you hit reserve you have 1.8 miles to find a petrol station:rolleyes:

I've done it twice... Plus coasted into petrol stations twice after running out right before. Not very clever :D

indeed, didn't help that my best riding mate was, unbeknown to me, sitting at the station waiting for fuel;)

My old KTM had 2 reserves as the tank straddled the spine of the bike and that was handy , but I`ve done it on my SV , I now have a thing under my seat called a "Joypump" (sounds a bit anne sumners) and got it for £4 off eBay , you can use it to extract fuel from another bike into your tank to get you to a garage :D

yeah, i've also heard tales of leaning the bike on it's side the side the tap is on to get fuel from one side to the other, but to no avail, i only had 200ml fuel in there anyway:D

Re: Running out of fuel...

With a lot of bikes, there's no need for a pump, all you need to do is take the tank off the one that has fuel, put the fuel hose into the other bike's tank, and open the tap. Only takes a couple of minutes.

Re: Running out of fuel...

Whereas I unclip my seat , retrieve the pump and transfer fuel , thus saving me a further one of your minutes to eat a cake or something :D

Re: Running out of fuel...

Yeah, but it means you have to carry the pump thing around all the time, so you have no space under your seat for the cake :D

Is that all? The manual says when the fuel indicator starts flashing there should be approx. 4 liters of fuel in the tank; it is on proper reserve with the fuel indicator lit constant, leaving 1.5 liters in the tank. Surely you should get way more than 1.8 miles out of 1.5 litres? Mine started to flash today. How trustworthy are these figures in the manual?
