Locating bike after accident.

Hi All,

I know this is not the norm but I am running out of options.

A week ago a white van knocked my off my bike. I was taken to hospital and what was left of the bike was removed. The police are claiming they did not take it, the council and the pound knows nothing about it. My friend went back to the crash site 15 minutes after the incident and the bike was gone and all the debris swept up. This leads me to belief that it was not stolen.

The insurance won't pay before I locate it.

I don't know if anybody has had a similar experience or can shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance.
Ian

Go back to the old bill, they have a responsibility to ensure your bike was looked after..........

Were the police there before you left?-i take it they were there due to you being injured-ask them for details from the incident(it should be logged who attended , time etc, when you left by ambulance to go to hospital etc)-try to find out what copper was there and speak to them in person-its normally the coppers who arrange for accident to be cleared or your insurance company-keep on this -you'll soon get answers-if no joy then report your bike stolen when you get no joy from the police and put down the coppers who attended as witnesses as they would have been one of the last people to see your bike at the scene of the accident-things will move then

I would just report it stolen, then you could claim off TPF&T just say the accident didn't happen, it was in perfect condition last time you saw the bike & oh, sorry for the confusion I must have been drinking when I reported the accident :smt102

i heard about this a few weeks ago here in the states .. someone was killed on their bike and as the police were cleaning up a lucker took the dead guys bike!. so either a lucker took it or the police got and are doing what police do is take stuff and not report it.

I'd be going to the press if the police dont sort it out.. highlight there incompetance and also publish it so people might know where it is?

The Police should know where it is, they have to release it from the scene! If they are no help on the phone then speak higher up the chain.
