Backfiring

Hi All,

I came across a few more questions for all you SV owners:

1) I recently purchased a 2003 SV650S with 8,500 miles. It has an aftermarket ART Exhaust and sounds great. Occasionally, when I let off the throttle I hear a backfire or two. I used to own a GSXR (no backfiring) so I am not sure if this is normal for these types of bikes.

2) During startup I can hear a ticking noise from the front. I have heard of GSXR's that do this due to the chain tensioner and it is supposedly normal. Is this also the case with the SV's? I only hear it while it is cold and warming up...once the bike reaches operating temp the noise is no longer audible.

Thanks!

Re: Backfiring

If there is an air leak at the front of the can it will backfire.

Re: Backfiring

If it shuts up when warm there's not a problem from camchain tensioner.

Backfire is normal, K3> has airleak fitted as standard on overrun as emissions measure. Adds weight and backfire. Is not harmful.
