front end shimmying
had some avon storms fitted today, although the grip is great i have noticed that the front end gives a little shimming at 80mph and above (on a private road) and at about 10mph as well.
anyone any ideas? |
Re: front end shimmying
Do you mean it vibrates?
Did they get balanced when they were fitted? |
Re: front end shimmying
nope its not a vibration, yes they got balanced when fitted.
the front end is shaking its head and gets worse the faster above 80mph i do. also below 10mph, i'd swear that the tyre wasn't balanced but i watched him do it. |
Re: front end shimmying
just to add, i upped the pressure in the front tyre to 34psi and it seems a lot better, then i upped the compression dampening and took it out again, it seems to have solved the problem, until that is i start to decelerate and at around 80, it feels as though the front wheel wants to tuck under.
any suggestions? |
Re: front end shimmying
What bike?

ahhh, emmm, well its an sv650 with a gsxr1000 k2 front end and a gsxr1000 k7 rear shokky.

Re: front end shimmying
Get front end off floor and spin wheel, check bearings and headstock. Also check spindle is tight, would allow side to side play.
|
Re: front end shimmying
everything is tight and sorted no freeplay whatsoever.
only thing i have changed from the old tyres (dunlops) is the front is now a 60 profile rather than the 70 for the gsxr. |
Re: front end shimmying
60 profile works fine, I've got that on my gixxer front end.

Re: front end shimmying
that's what worries me, the bike was not doing it before the tyre change.
i've eliminated the shaking its just the front feels as though its 'white lining' on declaration that's worrying me. |
