Gym - Whats better

Whats better?

Lifting my weight 20 times,
or,
Lifting my weight 10 times but with a additional 5 kg's?

Depends what you are trying to do......

If its to bulk up, increase weight and muscle volume....then 20 times your current weight + 5kg until you can physically do no more.

If you trying to tone your muscles without increasing weight and volume, whilst at the same time burning fat then 10 times your current weight + 5kg but very slow precise movements.

i think though may not be right your own weight *20 will build strength and endurance in your muscle but not necessary bulk( think leaner).

However your own weight +5 for 10 will build more bulk but if going for bulk prob better with like 5 sets of 5 with 5kg. waits to be corrected though

I'm more interested in loosing the fat, but maybe getting a little more strength in my arms.

Oi Hovis... you know this stuff.

Thats the one then.

Been discussing this with my personal trainer at the gym at the moment as I really dont want to be gaining weight, but loosing it and toning fast.

Really you dont want to be doing much weight work at all.

Lost 3 kilos last week monday to monday which is just under half a stone......hoping to have nearly as good week this week, but I've been told its drop off slower after the first week so dont be to dissapointed.

Been doing 30 minutes on the crosstrainer and 20 minutes running everyday.....then some very slow precise weights to increase definition.

Its worknig pretty well.

Start off slowly, then increase the rate, then slow again to relax the muscles and then fast again to work the muscle harder. This gives the muscles almost twice the work out in the same time.

OK as I understand it. If you want to loose weight and build some tone, then more rep's with a lighter weight if what you want to be doing.

But... I'm a little sceptical as to how much weight you'll loose just by lifting weights. I would have thought some cycling / cross trainer / treadmill or rowing sessions would be better for this...

I might however be completely wrong.
