my lil pooch
...has just been diagnosed with arthritis in the left knee. :(
she's a border collie bitch and she's only five and a half. i knew i she was going to have problems with her joints but was hoping it wouldnt show until she was at least 7 or 8 so i was wondering if any of the dog owning orgers knew of any treatments or home remedies to help? ive heard cod liver oil helps but then too much can be bad for them. any ideas? |
Re: my lil pooch
Glucosamine sulphate is supposed to help dogs with arthritis.

Re: my lil pooch
My cat has the same, after being hit by a car, he suffers every winter.
Anyway I was recommended cod liver oil, you can buy it by the bottle at Tesco's (rather than capsules). It works wonders, bless him he loves licking a plate with it on. |

Re: my lil pooch
I blessed my old boy's insurance when he got arthritis (at 8 ), the vet put him on a drug called Metacam and it was like he was a new dog for the remaining five years of his life.
That said if it's only minor at the moment, or only in a single joint than yeah, glucosamine can work miracles with thier mobility. A friends dog will sit and beg for his capsule every morning after his food - thinks it's a treat the daft begger. She's gets the Glucosamine/Chrondrotin combined 'human' supplement from Boots. |
Re: my lil pooch
it all sounds good :)
being only 19kg what dosage would be best? i think a human dosage would be too much wouldnt it? |
