I changed the springs and oil on mine yesterday with no ability or experience with only generic tools.

Should only take someone with ability, experience and proper tools (a stand!) 2 hours tops to take them off do whatever needs doing and put them back together.

Can you break that down please? I have to do an oil change and one fork seal soon.

If by service you mean strip, clean and reassemble with new oil ... ~£10 for a tub of oil and an afternoons tinker time ...

If you want to put new seals and bushes in there, then a fair bit more ...

If you are going to have them apart, its worth putting a new set of seals in at least ... they will set you back ~£20 the pair for 'genuine' ones ...

So ~£30 all in and an afternoons making a smelly oily mess!! :D
