My day (I crashed a little bit!)

So I was on a rideout with the Kent Motorcycle Society from uni, we were down at the Pfizer roundabouts being naughty boys and girls. I had the bike cranked over a hell of a lot, lost rear grip, caught it before it highsided me, but as it gripped again it was very wobbly, moved about a lot and turned rather awkwardly to the inside of the roundabout, leaving me almost on the kerb; suffice to say I got the bike slowed down to about 5 mph when it sort of ghostied itself away from me; it landed on my leg, which was lucky as the only damage is a small scuff on the motoslider, a touch-upable scratch on the fairing and the rhs indicator. I felt a bit silly but then I was carrying more corner speed than the majority of people there, one guy came up to me and was like 'I am very embarrassed,' I was like, 'yeah, but you didn't crash!'

Anyways, here's some pictures of me from the day:

There are more but they're pretty much the same; also it looks like my peg is scraping on one of them?

Do you have any sliders on?! Looks like you are going to wear a hole in your leathers...

Good pics though, no doubt that you can corner fast!

Yeah sliders would be a good start lol, theres another inch that you dont need to be cranked over for a start lol.

Glad you you are ok mate. Curiously, what tyres are you on as i've been told that those types of angles are impossible unless you are on sticky racing ones? I'm still trying to find my boundarys on my MEZ4's but have no idea because they are impossible to predict. I have Avon Storms coming and i'm hoping all the hype is true. Cool pictures by the way and get yourself some sliders!

How long you been riding to get your knee down that much?

I think I must lean about 5 degress (only passed test 1 week ago), lol :D

I do have sliders on, lol, well, I lent my left one to a mate as his were worn through. When this photo was taken there's less than a centimetre left on the slider on the right, I then swapped it later for the left hand one when my mate was done. I got maybe a few more degrees out of the bike before the rear went, the front never missed a beat. I've got a Z6 (120/70) on the front and a PR2 on the rear; something I think I'll stick with, very confidence inspiring.

I've been riding almost exactly a year now, although from feb-end of april I was bikeless.

The main reason I dropped it was trying to get my elbow down :( I got pretty close though!

I was riding 3 months until my first touch down lol.....probably would have been sooner but I couldnt afford leather haha

Seriously though you see old men on R1's and blade's going around roundabouts with their knee down, they are wobbly as hell and going really slow.....but it makes for a good photo and thats what counts! isnt it?

If you have been passed a week concentrate on cornering smootly, build up the speed and eventually it will happen....when your ready.

When you go out with the aim to scrape your knee......you try to hard and the result is the reason behind this thread.

That wasn't the first time I've got my knee down, most times when I was riding I was lifting my knee up so I could get some more lean angle. I wanted to see how far I could lean the bike over so I did, and happened to crash at a very slow speed after I'd almost saved it.

I now know the limits of the bike and there's about £10 worth of damage to it. Now I know the limits of the lean angle I can work on things that would make me quicker on a track like trail braking.

When I was done, my tyres were really hot to touch. Was excellent :D
