Just how quick is an SV650?
 

Hi guys,
I'm finally taking the plunge and getting my bike licence. Current plan is to get an SV650 for my first bike.
So onto my question.... just how quick are they?
I've been into performance cars for the last few years and have progressivly bought faster and faster machines. Current car is a 350bhp RX7.
My reasons for getting a bike a much broader than purely straight line speed, but it would be nice know whether i'm going to get "smoked" by my mates in their cars or not.

Can you name a few cars that are of similar straight line acceleration?

An SV will do 0-60 in 4 seconds or under.. a real top speed of 125ish, though it'll read a lot lot higher.
It's all about corners though ;)

If you have your tyre nice and warm and a bit of weight leaning forward it can be fun setting off as fast as possible! I think 0-60 on an SV650 is around 3.5secs and I think 0-100 is around 10-12secs. You won't get smoked trust me it's keeping the front end down that's the problem.

depends what you compare it to. An ordinary run of the mill family car isnt going to toast and SV off a set of lights. But it does run out of puff past 110mph ish...

Bikes arent about straight line performance and you'll eat most cars through a set of bends, but IMHO you might find it hard to leave behind a determined cage driver or one who can handle his car if the car has some poke. Something like an Imprezza or an EVO I think you're going to struggle to leave behind if the driver is capable.

Put it this way. I got outdragged on 6th gear acceleration by a 911 Turbo on the M6. It pulled away from me at 90 and I only started to catch it again when we got well into 3 figures... and that was on my GSXR which has a bit more poke than the SV does.

If you want my advice dont get hung up on 0-60 times and smoking your mates in their cars, just go out and ride.

That's roll on from starting at speed, The SV's 135mph top speed of course you are going to get wasted.
But if you mean traffic light GP from rest, you'll never find a car on the road that can beat you, unless your friends have seriously modded stuff.

I was just wondering how the bike would fair in a straight line against powerful cars.

I'd say DO get hung up on 0-60 times, they are the times that will make you win! 0-60 I'd say very few cars will beat it save for a Ferrari/Lambo/Porsche type things. As you get to 80-90 it doesn't accelerate so quickly, but thats all then very illegal speeds anyway. Nailing it off the lights and out of bends is GREAT fun.

EDIT: I mean rolling on from 90 is slower, it gets to 90 pretty quickly.
