Do I have the only good Insurance experience?

Right, so the Range Rover killed my SV back in January.....

Ok so its taken a bit of time to sort out - but I have to admit that most of that time WAS my fault for not chasing stuff up.

Short version of the story is that my SV was recovered, I got a lift home, I got a hire bike until 1st March when I got my Z750 (the Zed was NOT anything to do with the insurers).

The other month I got a check through from the insurers for £1400, with a letter telling me that they had also sent a cheque to the Finance Co for £1800, which was then confirmed by the finance co a few days later when I was informed that I no longer owe money on the SV.

Add to that the cheque for £1000 that I got in the post today from the GAP insurance people, and the still outstanding (because I have yet to send them reciepts) claim for uninsured losses - my excess and my new lid and something for damaged leathers - so about £600 which is enough to pay for me to retain the Cat-D salvage item that is the SV.

So the way I see it is that I got 18 months and 12000 miles out of a new SV that only cost me £600 in the end (actual figure after the GAP insurance and bits that I got on the bike that were not covered by the GAP takes it closer to £1500 really)

Add the fact that I am off to NZ for 3 weeks tomorrow and you can guess I am a pretty happy guy :)

Hastings Direct have been good to me. Dealt with my accident as fast as possible.

Only hindered by the other side changing their story many times. Good quotes, had good service, complimentry calls after any issues etc.

Thumbs from me. Only issue i have is im not allowed to ride other bikes. Annoying.

i have no bad experience with insurance companies. having never had to use them for their purpose (and long may it stay that way!!) other than renewing or finding a new insurer.

on the hastings front, that's good news for me as i've just taken out a policy with them. cheaper than my renewal offer and with legal cover and riding other bikes :D

When I wrote off my SV it was all handled pretty speedily and with no fuss. Had a cheque within two weeks and was back on a new bike within three. Even the renewal quote two months later was so reasonable I took it! (it only went up £60)

Not sure of the broker (may have been A-quote). Insurer was Norwich Union. It was SVA (numb nut here rode it into a cliff), bike was recovered home, picked up day later, engineer saw it two days after, wrote it off, rang me with an offer that was fair, I agreed, paperwork through, cheque issued :)
