Help Needed re Top Shock Bolt
Need some help.
Im swapping my stock shock for a zx10r but have been thwarted by the top shock bolt. well the nut really. I cant get a socket or rachet in there as there is a plastic box with a green top with some fuses in. It is close enough to the nut to stop the socket going onto the nut. Tried spanners to hold it but the nut is easily rounded off so stopped fairly quicky. Any solutions? |
Re: URGENT Help Needed re Top Shock Bolt
Use an extention on the Left side. Ideally remove the rear wheel (gives a bit more access) and use a closed end (ring) spanner on the nut. Get someone to hold the extention ratchet whilst you apply pressure to the nut.
Another tip would be to put a rag over the nut before you press on the ring spanner. I had problems with mine as well. Just remember to try and turn the nut not the bolt as there is less friction on the nut. HTH |
Re: URGENT Help Needed re Top Shock Bolt
That box is held on by a rubber mount that slides onto a lug on the frame. I did used to manage to get a socket in there. A 3/8ths drive one.
However the last time I slid the box off the mount using WD40 to assist slidage:) The problem being I never could get the darn thing back on again. It's well supported by the electrical cables though IIRC. |

Thanks guys. Managed to find out what that box was in the end. Consultated haynes manual and removed it. Socket went in. Bolt came out yay. Just bolting the new shock in now. :)
